Elastic Fibres in the Subcutaneous Tissue: Is There a Difference Between Superficial and Muscular Fascia? A Cadaver Study (PMID: 34420234)

Research Question

Is there a difference in the amount of elastic fibres between the superficial fascia and the deep (muscular) fascia, and how might this affect fascial elasticity?

This cadaver study examined whether different fascial layers in the thigh have distinct structural properties, particularly in terms of elastic fibre content.

Methods

Researchers collected tissue samples from three non-embalmed human cadavers.

Samples were taken from four regions of the thigh:

  • Medial
